Dermicin Seborrheic Dermatitis

Dermicin® is indicated for the treatment of infantile seborrhoeic dermati tis (cradle cap).

Infantile Seborrheic Dermatitis

Infantile seborrhoeic dermatitis (cradle cap) is characterised by yellow or brownish flaking which primarily occurs on the scalp. Seborrhoeic der matitis can also occur on the eyebrows, eyelids, behind the ears, crease of the nose, back of the neck, nappy area or folds of the knee, armpits or inner elbow.
It is believed to be caused by sebum overproduction (sebaceous glands) often in combination with a yeast infection (Malassezia). Infantile seborrhoeic dermatitis is not caused by poor hygiene or allergies. Infantile seborrhoeic dermatitis is a very common condition estimated to occur in approximately 50 percent of all infants.

Dermicin® Seborrheic Dermatitis

The Dermicin® package contains a 30 ml spray bottle, a sterile packed brush, a comb and this instruction for use.
Dermicin® spray is absorbed into the skin and works by dissolving the sticky layer of dry sebum. Dermicin® reduces moisture loss through the skin and restores the skin's barrier function. The enclosed brush and comb are used to remove the flakes that form with seborrhoeic dermatitis. Dermicin®  spray is designed in such a way that the yeast (Malassezia) cannot break down the Dermicin® spray oil and use it as a lipid source.

How to use Dermicin®

Remove the safety cap from the Dermicin®  spray bottle. Spray 2 times into the palm of your hand and apply/massage the Dermicin® onto the area with seborrhoeic dermatitis. Repeat if the area with seborrhoeic der matitis is large, e g the scalp. It is important to apply enough Dermicin® onto the skin. If the child has seborrhoeic dermatitis around his/her eyes, the Dermicin® can be sprayed onto a cotton pad to make it easier to apply without it getting into the child's eyes.
Excess Dermicin® left on your palms can be massaged into other areas of the child's skin since it prevents moisture loss through the skin. Apply the treatment every morning and afternoon until the seborrhoeic dermati tis has disappeared. This normally takes 1-4 weeks.
To remove adherent skin flakes, use the foam side of the sterile packed brush to VERY CAREFULLY massage the scalp and then remove the flakes with the brush side. The comb is used to CAREFULLY remove flakes from the child's hair. Remember that the child's scalp and skin are very soft. Seborrhoeic dermatitis can return after successful treatment. This is normal up to 7 months of age. After this, children seldom develop infantile seborrhoeic dermatitis. If the seborrhoeic dermatitis returns, treat again with Dermicin®There are no known side effects associated with the use of Dermicin®.
